I came across a simple image the other day—a conversation between an old man and a young boy. It hit harder than I expected.
The old man says:
“Erasers are made for those who makes mistakes.”
The kid replies, sharper than a samurai sword:
“Erasers are made for those who are willing to correct their mistakes.”
Now, that’s perspective.
At first glance, the old man isn’t wrong. Mistakes are inevitable, especially in something as unpredictable as life—or real estate. Whether it’s choosing the wrong location, pricing too high, or missing out on a great deal, we all have our fair share of “Oops”.
But the kid’s response? That’s where growth happens.
In property, like in life, the eraser isn’t a sign of failure. It’s a tool of maturity. It’s the decision to pause, reflect, and reset. We don’t get everything right the first time, but those who rise in this industry are the ones who aren’t afraid to admit, “Hey, I could’ve done better”—and then actually do better.
I’ve seen this firsthand in the younger generation of real estate agents—especially the ones who walk through our doors at ARK United Realty. They’re raw, sometimes inexperienced, often wide-eyed. But they come armed with a willingness to learn, to make mistakes, and more importantly—to erase, improve, and keep going.
And maybe that’s what makes someone successful in today’s property market. Not the perfect pitch, not even the smoothest script—but the quiet courage to fix what’s wrong, and to keep building from there.
If you’re someone who’s made mistakes before, or someone who’s still figuring it out, don’t be too hard on yourself. Just remember: the eraser is in your hand. What you do with it, though—that’s what defines you.
